My Bestie

This photo was taken the day I graduated from the sixth grade. We'd moved to the area at the beginning of the school year. I was very shy and afraid to talk to anyone.

The way the story was told to me, she noticed I was new in the neighborhood and said to another friend, "she lives on our block, we should ask her to walk home with us".

Since that day I have been touched by the generosity and kindness of my friend almost daily. We have had times over the years when we did not speak or write daily but that has been the anomaly. It is such a gift to have someone who accepts you, faults and all, and still loves you. My friend knows every mistake, bad choice and disappointment and also every triumph and celebration I have experienced. She has listened, consoled and cheered me all along the way.

I'm sure you see the beauty in her face, but do you see the love? I do.

That's why I chose her as my son's Godmother. She continues to evolve as a human and is brilliantly expressing herself as an artist. I know that she will continue to reach back and bring me forward again and again. I know that when she calls me and says, tell me more about you, that she will listen and hear me.

She is my best friend and my chosen sister and I love her.
